Occupational safety and health

The main priority of the Company is to ensure safe working conditions, preserve the life and health of our employees and employees of contractors employed at the facilities.

Included in this policy is the Company’s commitment to require all William Johnson employees to comply with established safety practices, provide training, and continually improve employee skills.  

Ensuring environmental safety

To ensure environmental safety, William Johnson uses special equipment and enhanced control methods, employing appropriately qualified personnel, which reduces the likelihood of incidents almost to the level of traditional mining methods.

 

Regardless of the location of the well, after the completion of the work, process fluids containing reagents and all waste from operations are taken out by the service company to their own production base for further disposal. There are no process fluid discharges.

 

Monitoring of the quality of ground and surface water is carried out by specialized contractors who control the compliance of the work performed with industry standards and requirements. For each license area, a local environmental monitoring project has been developed, agreed with government agencies. The projects define sampling points and their frequency. Water intake is carried out from specially equipped water intake points, instrumental measurement is carried out. Annually, the results of environmental monitoring are sent to government agencies.

Occupational Injury Prevention

The Company’s goals in reducing  occupational injuries include:

 

  • improvement of working conditions and labor protection, reduction of the level of industrial injuries and occupational diseases;
  • reducing the risk of accidents, incidents, fires and emergencies at facilities.

 

In order to prevent injuries, risks are regularly identified in accordance with the corporate standard and measures are taken to manage them, labor protection measures are implemented, regular employees and personnel of contractors are regularly informed about the state of injuries.

 

In the event of accidents, measures are taken in accordance with the requirements of the legislation of the countries of presence and corporate standards, including:

 

  • prompt notification of all cases of injury that occurred at the Company’s facilities, including with employees of contractors;
  • conducting investigations, analyzing the circumstances and causes of accidents;
  • development of measures aimed at preventing the occurrence of emergencies and injuries.

 

The results of the investigations are used to plan and implement the necessary measures, prevent incidents and minimize potential damage in case of similar incidents.

Guarantees and compensation

In all countries, the responsibility of the employer for the preservation of the life and health of workers in the workplace is legally fixed. Employees who are injured as a result of industrial accidents, illness or disability due to an accident are provided with cash payments, the amount of which is determined by the terms of insurance contracts and local laws and regulations.

Based on the results of a special assessment of working conditions, the Company provides employees with full compensation for harmful working conditions in the form of a shorter working week, additional leave, higher wages depending on the established subclass of harmful working conditions at the workplace.

Working conditions

When hiring, during the briefing on labor protection, employees are informed:

 

  • on harmful substances used in production;
  • on the presence of harmful and dangerous production factors at the workplace;
  • about the existing risk of damage to health and the materials of a special assessment of working conditions;
  • about the entitlement compensation and personal protective equipment;
  • about the causes of industrial injuries.

 

The Company is systematically working to improve working conditions at workplaces. Thanks to the consistent implementation of measures to improve working conditions over the past years, the proportion of the Company’s employees working in hazardous working conditions has been steadily decreasing.

Leadership and safety culture

An important task for the Company is to develop leadership and strengthen the safety culture among employees. Safety culture is an integral part of the overall corporate culture and business ethics, as well as a basic element of the Integrated Management System.

Safety rules

Key safety rules are issued to all categories of persons who are or plan to be on the territory of production facilities. When passing an introductory briefing, as well as in other forms of notification of compliance with the requirements of industrial safety, health and safety.

Failure to comply with the Key Safety Rules is considered a gross violation of labor and production discipline. In all, without exception, cases of violation by employees of any of the Key Safety Rules, violators, regardless of their position, are subject to disciplinary sanctions.

Employees have the right to refuse to perform their professional duties if they consider it impossible to perform them without a threat to life and health.

Participation of workers in safety management

Employees can participate in improving the HSE management system through their authorized representatives for labor protection, through the activities of trade union and joint committees (commissions) on labor protection, as well as participating in the events of Safety Days.
